Limited Feedback Multi-Antenna Quantization Codebook Design-Part I: Single-User Channels

چکیده
In this two-part paper, we study the design and optimization of limited feedback single-user and multiuser systems with a multiple-antenna base station and single-antenna users. The design problem is cast in form of minimizing the average transmission power at the base station subject to the outage probability constraints at the users’ side. The optimization is over the users’ channel quantization codebooks and the transmission power control function at the base station. Our approach is based on fixing the outage scenarios in advance and transforming the design problem into a robust system design problem. The first part of the paper addresses the single-user system and the second part studies the multiuser case. For the single-user case, we start by showing that uniformly quantizing the channel magnitude in dB scale is asymptotically optimal, regardless of the magnitude distribution function. We derive the optimal uniform (in dB) channel magnitude codebook and combine it with a spatially uniform channel direction codebook to achieve a product channel quantization codebook. We then optimize such a product structure in the asymptotic regime of B → ∞, where B is the total number of quantization feedback bits. The paper shows that for channels in the real space, the asymptotically optimal number of direction quantization bits should be (M−1)/2 times the number of magnitude quantization bits, where M is the number of base station antennas. We also show that the designed system approaches the performance of the perfect channel state information system as 2− 2B M+1 .

متن کاملEfficient Feedback via Subspace Based Channel Quantization for Downlink Transmission in Distributed Cooperative Antenna Systems
It is one of the biggest challenges of multi-user distributed cooperative antenna (COOPA) systems to provide base stations (BSs) with downlink channel information for transmit filtering (precoding). The analog pilot retransmission method is efficient in terms of resources but is vulnerable to noise enhancement effects. The precoder codebook based feedback schemes are not applicable since they a...

This paper addresses the optimal design of limitedfeedback multi-user spatial multiplexing systems. A base station with M antennas is considered serving M single-antenna users, which share a common feedback link with a total rate of B bits per fading block. The optimization problem is cast in form of minimizing the average transmission power at the base station subject to users’ outage probabil...
متن کاملAn Effective Limited Feedback Scheme for FD-MIMO Based on Noncoherent Detection and Kronecker Product Codebook
The low complexity quantization of channel state information (CSI) and the utilization of vertical freedom of three dimension (3D) channels are two critical issues in the limited feedback design of the full dimension multi-input-multi-output (FD-MIMO) systems. In this paper, we propose an effective limited feedback scheme. We first employ Kronecker product based codebook (KPC) to explore the ve...
متن کاملSingle-user MIMO versus multi-user MIMO in distributed antenna systems with limited feedback
This article investigates the performance of cellular networks employing distributed antennas in addition to the central antennas of the base station. Distributed antennas are likely to be implemented using remote radio units, which is enabled by a low latency and high bandwidth dedicated link to the base station. This facilitates coherent transmission from potentially all available antennas at...
